So good Chelsea. It’s all such a mess. My dad will die on the hill that I left Mormonism because I got swayed by anti-Mormon propaganda. But like…I could basically say the same thing back to him, just take out “anti.” It’s so disheartening to see what lack of critical thinking does to people, as well as this obsessive need people have to defend doctrine and dogma. (Of course, the system trained us to do that). The Hamakers’ story this week also highlights what happens when you think critically…you’re seen as a threat and removed from the system. I wish us all to be free.

My jaw is on the floor. This is an amazing piece my friend. You are such a good writer because you feel deeply and love humans AND you’re so good at writing thoughts that I could never translate to words myself. 10/10. Pls never stop writing.

I know this is different but I feel the same way about 12 step recovery after leaving with 10 years sober (still sober). Knowing that so many amazing women are still so steeped in dogma that hurts them makes my heart break in two. I have no idea how to help them, and for many of them I don't think I ever can.

I'm really glad this is the piece I snatched out of my inbox for email catch-up. I got sucked earlier this week into observing coverage and and then running from the Easter influencer event hosted by the church in the conf center. Vom. But also. Plz Jesus lemme at 'em I can save 'em!

I, too, want us free and fierce and thinking critically. Tryna "man in the mirror" myself in that direction.

Thanks for writing, Chels ♥️

“We ought to be talking about fascism and how to extend community care across class and yet me and my mormon kin can’t seem to get off the merry-go-round of the bi-annual debates on whether or not an exclusive pair of underwear prescribed and policed by men is an infringement on bodily autonomy.”

You just put something into words that I haven’t been able to articulate. This is it! I find myself wondering about and redefining and redefending the same things over and over, it’s intriguing and maddening, and yet, it’s hard to get completely off that merry go round.

I was born into a Mormon family in Salt Lake City. At a very young age, I realized I was being educated to not think criticaly. I left the Republican party, I left the Mormon Church, and I left Salt Lake City forever.

Wow, excellently written! As easy as it is to condemn these influencers, the pull to help them is even stronger. Thank you for explaining how I feel so well!
